Musical Compass 2025: What Are Russians Listening to?

Analysts at ON Media conducted a survey to find out which music most accurately reflects the mood of the outgoing 2025. Participants of the study (16-55 years) called the song by Tatiana Kurtukova “Mother” the most appropriate to the spirit of the time, followed by “Cuckoo” of the group “Cinema” and “Trains” by Zhenya Trofimov with “Room of Culture”.

In general, Russians in 2025 gravitate towards pop music. Among the foreign artists to whom respondents would trust the musical accompaniment for their lives, the leaders were Eminem, Metallica and Rihanna. In Russian music, Viktor Tsoi took first place, Basta - second, and the group "King and the Jester" - third.

Interestingly, preferences depend on gender and age. Men were more likely to choose rock, rap, chanson, electronics, metal or punk, and women – pop, classics, R’n’B, jazz and indie. Zoomers (16-24 years) preferred rap, millennials (25-34 years) – pop, and users 35-44 years – rock. For positive emotions, pop music is the most popular (43%), followed by rock (34%) and rap (29%). For living negative emotions, rock (29%), popular music (19%) and rap (17%) are the most popular. It is interesting that residents of large cities and the capital prefer to relax under the classical compositions.
