Musicians Refuse to Perform at Kennedy Center Over Trump Politics

Due to the current US president’s continued policies and his influence on world events, more musicians are turning down performances at the renamed Kennedy Center, now named after Donald Trump. The last to withdraw his proposal for a premiere was the famous composer Philip Glass, whose 15th Lincoln Symphony, dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, was to be presented at the center in 2026. Glass explained his decision by stating that the current values of the Kennedy Center contradict the essence of the symphony.

This situation provoked a wide public reaction. Following the recent actions of ICE agents that led to the tragic death of a civilian in Minnesota, criticism was expressed by Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. Musician Moby urged his fans to boycott companies supporting Trump and ICE, and Neil Young, being a Canadian, made all his music available to Greenlanders, which, according to Trump, is a priority goal. Even the President of the United States, drawing the disapproval of the audience of the Super Bowl, refused to participate in the show, calling it “hate speech”, when in fact he was booed. These developments only highlight the growing cultural and political resistance to the Trump administration’s actions.
