Artificial intelligence revives John Lennon's latest interview

The documentary "John Lennon: The Last Interview", created with the help of artificial intelligence, told the director Stephen Soderbergh. The film, developed with support from Meta*, is based on John Lennon's latest interview recorded during the release of Double Fantasy with Yoko Ono. Since the source material was only an audio recording, the filmmakers had to visualize it using archival footage and generate 10% of screen time using AI. Soderbergh argues that it is AI that allows you to recreate surreal moments that would not be possible to implement traditional methods.

The director explained that they break the film down into snippets, filling in the gaps in descriptions of Lennon's personal experiences, his musical works and the people around him with archival video and static images. As a result, the only abstract-philosophical moments remained incomplete.

Soderbergh emphasizes that AI is being used as an artistic tool, not to completely replace reality, and the viewer will easily be able to distinguish the places where AI was used. Steven Soderbergh is a renowned Oscar-winning filmmaker working on a Lennon film alongside the musician's heirs, and Meta is acting as the project's technical partner, testing its technology for the first time.
