Grammys Change the Rules: Category Expansion and New Opportunities

The American Recording Academy continues to adapt its Grammy Awards. In 2027, the number of categories will increase from 78 to three digits, and the most significant change will be the opportunity to qualify for the Best New Artist Award for musicians who have not previously had such an opportunity. Now contenders can be such stars as country singer Ella Langley and the group Geese. In addition, the number of attempts to receive this award increased from three to four. Other changes include expanding the list of categories (to 15), voting in a wider range of genres, new categories such as Best Asian Pop Performance, and changing the criteria for determining a new album – it must now have at least 66% of previously unreleased music. The 69th Grammy Awards will be held on February 7.
