"The Mastodon in the Room": Mastodon Dedicated Movie to Brent Hinds

Mastodon have released a 35-minute documentary about Brent Hinds, the band's former vocalist and guitarist, who died in a road accident in 2025. It was a way for the musicians to complete a chapter in the band’s history and to speak honestly about the 25-year history of their relationship, which did not go without disagreements – Hinds claimed that he was effectively expelled from the band.

In the film, former participants remember Bent as a man full of energy and often uncontrollable, who dreamed of “living to the fullest”. Drummer Brann Daylor talks about his risk-taking: "He wanted you to follow him straight into the abyss," noting Hinds' lack of ability to stop.

Mastodon are planning a European and North American tour this year and are working on a new album, which will be the first to not include Brent Hinds. The film is seen as an opportunity to shed light on the complex relationships that underpinned their creative journey.
