Pyotr Sukhov: Lawyer, musician and front-line duo – The Way to the Sounds of Russia

Peter Sukhov (real surname Alexei Zhidkov) is an unusual artist who combines the experience of a successful lawyer and a talented musician. Together with his wife Marina, he formed an author’s duo, performing both modern songs and folk motifs inspired by Cossack culture. In the interview, the artists spoke about their creative path, noting that their activities do not contradict each other, but rather complement it.

Initially, Alexei Zhidkov worked in the profession of a lawyer before the change of social relations in Russia after the collapse of the USSR. Having received a law degree at MGSA, he realized the need for musical activity and in 1999 released his first album “The Pass”, which is now under reconstruction for release in a renewed sound.

Duo Sukhov uses their music as a way to unite people, regularly performing at concerts for military personnel in the territory of the SVO. They focus on creativity, which promotes a lifting of the spirit and causes positive emotions. The uniqueness of their performances lies in the combination of Cossack folklore and pop, as well as in the personal experience of artists who have survived military everyday life.

At the heart of their work is the poetry of Marina Sukhova, which adds depth and emotional color to the songs. The Sukhov family pays homage to the Cossack heritage, viewing themselves as supporters of the Cossack lifestyle, and also celebrate the role of the frontline father in their biography.

Despite the unpredictability of the schedule of performances, the duo Sukhovs strives to develop and share their music with the public, paying special attention to the regions where they are expected with particular enthusiasm.
