Fiona Apple returns with powerful statement of justice

Following recent appearances in a Neil Young tribute and cameo on The Waterboys, Fiona Apple has released her first original track in five years, the single "Pretrial (Let Her Go Home)". This track is not just a new song, but a deep program statement, dictated by personal experience and active volunteering. Apple, after spending two years as a judicial observer, attended thousands of hearings in which she often heard about unfair cases of people being jailed for lack of funds. It was especially hard for her to hear her parents being taken away from her children. Apple is active in volunteering for Free Black Mamas DMV, an organization that helps women who are unable to pay bail after preliminary hearings.
