Mastodon announce 170 Marrow Deep vinyl copies containing fossil dust

Mastodon unveiled a special Marrow Deep pressing on October 9, incorporating ground fossilized mastodon teeth into the vinyl. Only 170 copies were made. The double LP includes a certificate of authenticity; Loma Vista’s official store lists a price of $150 before shipping.
The band received the teeth roughly twenty years ago. Troy Sanders proposed combining that material with a record. The University of Georgia’s geology department helped prepare the particles, while Waxworks partnered on production. The band’s official making-of video, included here, shows the process.
Registered customers are selected randomly for an opportunity to purchase, rather than receive a free record. The store restricts delivery to the United States, Canada and Mexico, with shipping expected around October 16. Current registration terms remain available on the official product page.
