John Mayer launches Sob Rock Records and releases Tom and Jerry

John Mayer has launched Sob Rock Records in partnership with Mercury Records and released the single Tom and Jerry on October 23. The label agreement was announced the previous day. It brings the guitarist back into a major-label partnership after his departure from Columbia in 2022.

The new imprint takes its name from Sob Rock, his 2021 album. Tom and Jerry is his first new solo release since that record. Mayer produced the song with Blake Slatkin, while Serban Ghenea handled the mix; recording took place at Chaplin Studios in Hollywood.

The single is available through Mayer’s official website and release link. The announcement does not provide a title or release date for another studio album. The Spotify player here corresponds to Tom and Jerry, rather than an earlier catalogue recording.
