R.E.M. share The Great Beyond from their 2001 Paris radio session

R.E.M. released an archival live version of The Great Beyond on October 23, drawn from their Radio France performance in Paris on May 7, 2001. It previews The Black Sessions Revealed, a 17-song concert programme arriving through Craft Recordings on November 20 as part of Reveal's anniversary edition. This is a historic performance rather than a new studio session.
The song originally accompanied Miloš Forman's 1999 film Man on the Moon, starring Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman, and reached number three in Britain. For the French radio recording, Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills were joined by Scott McCaughey, Ken Stringfellow and Joey Waronker.
The 25th-anniversary package pairs Reveal's original twelve tracks with the Paris concert on two CDs and Blu-ray, with an expanded digital edition also planned. The concert will be available separately on two vinyl records. A live Imitation of Life appeared in September; the newly shared track provides another document of the same radio session.
