Ghost’s Mary On A Cross has passed one billion Spotify streams and entered the service’s Billions Club. A new retrospective about its animated video appeared on November 4. Director Sean Donnelly uploaded it to his own DurtySean channel, showing storyboards, reference footage and an After Effects project.

The song originally appeared in September 2019 on Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic alongside Kiss The Go-Goat. Its presentation drew on Ghost’s invented 1960s history; that setting was fiction, not the recording’s actual date. A renewed wave of attention arrived in 2022 through a slowed TikTok version, followed by an officially released treatment of that kind.

The animated music video discussed by Donnelly was connected to the film Rite Here Rite Now and publicly released in 2024. The new upload therefore explains an existing clip’s creation. Both official-source videos are available below. The billion milestone concerns Spotify plays, rather than unique listeners or YouTube views.
