Kelly Hansen leaves Foreigner: Luis Maldonado to become new vocalist

Legendary vocalist of Foreigner, Kelly Hansen, announced his departure from the band in the final episode of the American version of The Voice on NBC on May 20, 2025. After performing a medley of hits including "Feels Like the First Time," Hansen announced his decision, which will mark the end of his 20 years as a member of the band. He will be replaced by Luis Maldonado, formerly known as Train guitarist and collaborator with John Waite and Lisa Marie Presley.

Hansen stressed that it is a great honor to be the voice of Foreigner, but it is time to pass on the baton of Maldonado, who, as he expressed, is ready with love and energy to put his soul into every performance. Hansen began his career in the 1980s with the band Hurricane, and in 2005 joined Foreigner after the departure of Lou Gramm. Foreigner, founded in 1976, has released several successful albums, including 4, and remains one of rock's most respected bands. In 2024, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Sammy Hagar continues to uphold the band's legacy.
