Morten Harket opens up about Parkinson's disease and new treatments

Legendary a-ha frontman Morten Harket has announced his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. This group published on its official website. For a long time, the musician was silently treated, preferring solitude, but now he spoke about his experience and the last steps in the fight against the disease.

"I didn't want to publish the diagnosis because I needed peace and quiet to work," Harket explains, referring to the gaze of his 94-year-old father, who embraces the inevitable changes in the body with a philosophy of humility.

Last year, Harckett deliberately sought help at the Mayo Clinic in the US, where he received treatment aimed at alleviating symptoms. In 2024, neurosurgical operations were performed with the implantation of electrodes in the left and then the right part of the brain, and now he is undergoing therapy with deep brain stimulation (DBS).

Despite the seriousness of the disease, Harket notes a significant improvement. He can even drive the car again. However, he continues to receive medical treatment, suffers from insomnia and admits that his vocal abilities are significantly limited: “The question is whether I can express myself in my voice.” Despite this, he remains optimistic and hopeful for further improvement in his condition.
