The outstanding choirmaster Boris Pevzner has passed away

It is with great sorrow that the news of the death of Boris Pevzner came to the Moscow Choral Theatre, on June 4, 2025, at the age of 85. This outstanding choirmaster, who headed the theater for more than three decades, died after many years of life.

Boris Pevzner was born on August 24, 1940 in Minsk. His musical education began at the Krasnodar School of Music (1965), and continued at the Novosibirsk Conservatory (1976). He began his career in the Leningrad Choir Chapel. Glinki and then became a professor at the Novosibirsk Conservatory.

In 1971, Pevzner founded the Novosibirsk Chamber Choir, led it until 1987, and then worked in the State Choir Chapel of Georgia. In 1991, he created the Moscow Choral Theatre, one of Russia’s leading ensembles. In his career, he collaborated with famous musicians such as Vladimir Spivakov, Elena Obraztsova, Yuri Bashmet and Vladimir Fedoseyev. Boris Pevzner was also the author of numerous publications devoted to choral singing, and the compiler and editor of the collection "Chamber Choir".
