Sly Stone, Soul's Revolutionary, Leaves Life at 82

Legendary Sly Stone, the founder and vocalist of Sly and the Family Stone, passed away on June 9 at the age of 82. The band, a pioneer of psychedelic soul, revolutionized music by releasing iconic albums such as Stand!, There's a Riot Goin' On and Fresh, as well as cementing their spots on the US charts with the hit singles "Everyday People", "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) / Everybody Is a Star" and "Family Affair". The band, who received Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recognition in the first year of their eligibility, ended their lives after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and comorbidities. The recently completed script based on his memoirs was Stone's last creative project. In January, the documentary “Sly Lives!” was released. (aka The Burden of Black Genius), created by The Roots and Kuestlove, which won an Oscar, and recently Sly Stone's musical talent was introduced in a new format.
