Died an outstanding jazz critic Dmitry Ukhov

It is with deep sorrow that the death of Dmitry Ukhov, a well-known Russian journalist, critic and musicologist, who died on August 10, 2025 in Moscow at the age of 79, is reported. His tragic death was confirmed by friends and colleagues.

Dmitry Ukhov, born July 15, 1946 in Moscow, dedicated his life to jazz. Having been educated at the postgraduate school of the Moscow State University Philology Department (the dissertation "Poetics of Modern Popular Song of the USA and England" under the guidance of Yasen Zasursky), he began his career as a music critic in the foreign press in the mid-1960s. Subsequently, he worked in leading Russian publications such as “Kommersant”, “Weekly magazine”, “Musical life” and on the portal Jazz.ru.

Ukhov was a key figure on the radio "Culture", where since the 1980s he led the popular programs "Jazz Philharmonic" and "Alternative", and also worked for many years as a curator and host of the Moscow International Festival of Contemporary Music "Alternative". He also produced, was chairman of the Moscow Association of Jazz Journalists and one of the most important theorists and organizers of modern jazz.
