"In the Name of Who?" - New teaser reveals the story of Kanye West

On August 13, 2025, the first teaser of the documentary In Whose Name?, dedicated to the life and career of Kanye West, directed by Nico Ballesteros, was released. The film is based on three thousand hours of video footage collected by Ballesteros from the age of 18, when he recorded his life 15 hours a day. The teaser showcases a grim take on the rapper's life: his ups, downs, mental health crisis, the breakdown of his marriage to Kim Kardashian and the loss of financial gains. The film's title, "In Whose Name?", points to an exploration of the phenomenon of idolatry, encompassing both Ye's worship and the influence of various idols on West's life.

Ballesteros, who has acted as director, producer, cameraman and editor, created a "raw and often disturbing" portrait of West without offering his own interpretations. According to one of the producers, Simran A. Singh, Ballesteros's direct presence alongside West for such a long time, lacking a clear picture of the consequences, makes the footage particularly strong and truthful. The film, aimed at a wide audience, will be screened in the U.S. on September 19, launching in 1,000 theaters in partnership with AMC, Regal and Cinemark.
