Sam Fender: Heartland Rock at the Top of the Mercury Prize

Moving the Mercury Prize to Newcastle, driven by a desire to represent the UK music scenes more representatively, led to Sam Fender's well-deserved victory with his album People Watching. This success, reinforced by the commercial success of People Watching, has made heartland rock recognized worldwide. The ceremony to commemorate actress Annie Orvin, who inspired Fender, also featured eight nominees, including the legendary Martin Carty and the band Pulp and Wolf Alice. Even though Irish country-pop singer CMAT was unable to perform due to tooth extraction, the Mercury Prize remains one of the most prestigious awards in the British and global music industry, celebrating the UK and Ireland's best albums over the past 12 months, regardless of genre and popularity. A deluxe version of "People Watching" will be released on December 5th with eight bonus tracks, including the single "Talk to You" featuring Elton John.
