Jim Jarmusch: Movies, Music and the New Venice Star

The 72-year-old Jim Jarmusch is a multifaceted figure: not only has he created American indie classics, including films such as Stranger Than in Paradise and Dead Man, but he is also an outstanding experimental musician. Having started his career with the know-wave band The Del-Byzanteens in the 80s, Jarmusch continues to create music, including soundtracks for his own work, co-written with Josef van Wissem and the band Sqürl.

The Venice Film Festival honored him with the award for the new film “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother”, in which the acting ensemble led by Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver shines. At the same time, on November 14, the original soundtrack for the film will be released, written by Jarmusch and Anika, an artist known for her collaborations with Jeff Barrow and Tricky, as well as using songs inspired by Nico and Dusty Springfield. Anika, whose latest solo album, Abyss, came out this year, will provide listeners with a lead single. Father, Mother, Sister, Brother is a tragicomic anthology in which Tom Waits also plays a prominent role.
