Russian users appreciated the interest in remakes and new interpretations of the classics

The service MTS Music conducted a study to find out how Russians relate to remakes and new interpretations of musical works. Analysts MTS Media polled more than 600 Russians in October 2025 (age 18-55 years).

It turned out that 56% of respondents have a positive attitude to remakes. Of particular interest were remakes of songs by Andrei Gubin, Tatiana Bulanova, Lolita and Valery Kipelov. Popular and remakes of Lucy Chebotina and Zhenya Trofimova.

The main reasons for the popularity of new interpretations were financial gain (57%), stagnation in the creative industries (36%) and nostalgia (35%). Residents of St. Petersburg, in turn, noted the creative freedom and desire for experimentation, and residents of other regions emphasized the importance of preserving the original for future generations.

Knowledge of the differences between cover versions and remixes also varies. Most men (27%) can accurately point out differences, while women have a lower score (20%). More than 50% of respondents never accept remakes as original works.

77% of Russians would like young musicians to collaborate more often with their senior colleagues, creating covers of their songs. First of all, trust in this issue, according to respondents, cause Lucy Chebotin and Zhanna Trofimova. Residents of Moscow, in turn, prefer Stas Mikhailova and Zhanna Aguzarova. Users from other regions are mainly Valery Kipelova and Lolita.

Overall, 62% of women and 55% of men know in general terms how a cover version of a music track differs from its remix.
