“The Word of the Shelf” in Jazz Interpretation: Premiere of the Performance at the Moscow Festival

As part of the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Moscow Jazz Festival, on June 14, 2026, the premiere of the musical and poetic performance “The Word about Igor’s Regiment” will be held. The production, combining classical epic and modern jazz music, will be held in the P.I. Concert Hall. Tchaikovsky with the participation of the People's Artist of Russia Sergey Bezrukov and the Moscow Jazz Orchestra under the leadership of Igor Butman.

The musical basis - the suite "Rus" by Alexander Borodin, arranged by Nikolai Levinovsky, is known for its excellent works on the "Bogatyr Symphony" and "Prince Igorev". Butman said that the idea of creating the play arose after the release of the album “Images”. Mussorgsky and Borodin" and also came across a desire to combine the epic text of the ancient Russian epic with orchestral music embodied by the voice of Sergei Bezrukov.

In addition to the premiere, within the framework of the festival (9-13 June), live broadcasts of the educational program and exclusive online broadcasts of the performances of the leaders of the jazz scene: Igor Butman, Evgeny Margulis, Sergey Dolzhenkov, Petr Nalich, Petr Drangi, Alexei Goman and many others will be available. Spectators from different regions will be able to see the performance both live and through the social network “Classmates”.
