Russian Music Society plans gala concert at Carnegie Hall to strengthen cultural ties

The interregional public organization “Russian Musical Society” initiated a gala concert of classical music in the famous “Carnegie Hall” (New York) for the 135th anniversary of this concert hall, opened in 1891 with the participation of Peter Tchaikovsky. The idea came amid a visit by U.S. Commission on Fine Arts Chairman Rodney Mims Cook Jr. to SPIEF and received support from key figures of Russian culture, including the Minister of Culture, the General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre Valery Gergiev and the founder of the “Connection of Times” Foundation Viktor Vekselberg.

The concert is conceived as a non-politicized “bridge” between Russia and America, emphasizing the ability of art to unite peoples. The participation of stars of Russian and American classical music will honor Tchaikovsky, whose performance in 1891 was a landmark event, and recall the deep cultural ties between the two countries, from Tchaikovsky’s works to American jazz. Svetlana Kobzar, Executive Director of the RMO, said: “Music is the only language that does not need translation.”
