“People’s Classics” goes online: round-the-clock broadcasting on Russia Day

On the Day of Russia on June 12, 2026, the Internet channel “People’s Classics”, timed to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, will begin round-the-clock broadcasting on the website and in the mobile application of Orpheus radio. The channel is aimed at a young audience passionate about folk and ethno-music.

The channel will feature more than 30 nationalities of Russia - from well-known folklore hits ("Oy you wide steppe", "Lady") to author's compositions and legendary songs of the Soviet period, performed on duduk, harp, vargan and other folk instruments.

Prepared with the participation of the company “Melodiya” and the Guild of Interethnic Journalism, the channel includes recordings of such famous performers as “Ichtis”, Choir of the Sretensky Monastery, Olga Glazova, group “Bai-Terek” and many others. Special attention is paid to rare works – peasant songs of the Tambov province of the XIX century, recorded by the Academic Choir of the Russian song “Orpheus”, which after a century and a half again found sound thanks to the archives of the Teleradiocenter.

Irina Gerasimova, Director General and Artistic Director of the Orpheus Television and Radio Center, emphasizes the importance of the channel as a “window to Russian folklore”, which will allow young listeners to touch the rich cultural heritage of the country, where traditional music coexists with modern music. The presentation of the channel on May 27 demonstrated the variety of genres and performers presented. The channel’s music base will be constantly expanding to reflect the richness of Russian folk music as fully as possible.
