PJ Harvey "Voyager": Song about Voyager Probes and the Uniqueness of Earth

The single "Voyager" by PJ Harvey, inspired by the legendary space probes "Voyager", was released on June 24, 2026. Originally an idea for Harvey's new album, the song was developed by the singer's invitation to perform in Professor Brian Cox's concert show "Emergence" in the UK. The single was recorded with a full orchestra at Miraval Studios in Provence.

The lyrics of the song refer to Carl Sagan’s work, especially his book The Blue Dot, where he described the Earth as a “dust hovering in the sun’s ray.” Harvey, admiring the Voyagers’ journey and mission, celebrates the beauty and fragility of our planet. Inspired by the ideas of Professor Cox, she used the sound of the spacecraft as a starting point for the song, collaborating with Dario Marianelli on the orchestral arrangement. This project, Harvey's last studio album, "I Inside the Old Year Dying" (2023), became her tenth full-length work and first release on the Partisan Records label. The release date of the next album has not yet been determined.
