A new study conducted by VK Music in conjunction with the lifestyle publication Mindflow, sheds light on how music affects the rest of Russians outside the city. The survey, which covered more than 2,000 people aged 18 to 45 years from different regions of Russia, was attended by those who consider the dacha as one of the ways to spend the summer.

It turned out that for the majority of Russians, a vacation without music is an inferior experience: 77% believe that music makes the dacha more atmospheric. Music is a key element of country life – 52% of respondents include it in the background, the second place is occupied by radio (26%), and the third – communication with loved ones.

The study revealed that music accompanies Russians in various country scenarios: during the preparation of kebabs (28%), memories of trips to the country house (21%), rest at the site (19%) and friendly gatherings at the campfire (17%).

The most popular artists for summer holidays are Basta, Icebergert, Miyagi & Endgame, Macan, Guf and Jakone. Pop was the dominant genre (47%), followed by rap and hip-hop (26%), rock (14%) and low-fi/chill music (10%).

An interesting discovery was the data on auditions in VK Music from May to June: many Russians shared memories caused by specific tracks ("Crying Hope" Jakone, "Phoenix" Bearwolf, "Shade" By India), as well as organized romantic evenings and held dance flash mobs to popular hits.

I especially remember Mia Boyka’s track “Exhibit”, which many used to create vertical videos.

In general, the study showed that music in the country does not just create a background – it performs a number of important functions: from accompanying friendly gatherings to evoking warm memories and turning the holiday into a special moment. Russians prefer time-tested compositions, and music becomes an important part of their summer experience and joint pastime.
