Anthony Hopkins reveals his musical talent: new album 'Life is a Dream'

Antony Hopkins, an 88-year-old actor and film legend, is finally fulfilling a long-held dream of becoming a composer. In August, Decca will release his first full-length album, Life is a Dream, featuring works he has written over decades. The recording was made by the Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel.

Hopkins began to study music from the age of four, when he mastered the piano and participated in pianist competitions, performing works by Chopin and Beethoven. He also composed music for local theater productions. His acting career didn’t stop him from having a true passion: music. His house is now full of scores he periodically played to his cat.

2012 saw the release of Composer, which included the suite 1947, written in 1963 and inspired by childhood memories of South Wales. One part of the suite, "Bracken Road", was released as a single.

Hopkins has now signed with Decca and has expressed huge gratitude to Gustavo Dudamel, Gregorio Nieto and Sergio Tiempo for the opportunity to collaborate. He considers working with the orchestra a "true privilege."
